Waiting for Godot

The present blog is in response of the thinking activity of the poem "Waiting for Godot" writtern by Samuel beckett.

1.what do you think about the characters of the play ?

There are total 6 characters in this play. All the characters had their own part to play which gives more details to the whole art. Following are brief introduction of all the characters included in the play :

Vladimir

  • One of the two main characters of the play. Estragon calls him Didi, and the boy addresses him as Mr. Albert. He seems to be the more responsible and mature of the two main characters.

  • Estragon

The second of the two main characters. Vladimir calls him Gogo. He seems weak and helpless, always looking for Vladimir's protection. He also has a poor memory, as Vladimir has to remind him in the second act of the events that happened the previous night.

  • Pozzo

He passes by the spot where Vladimir and Estragon are waiting and provides a diversion. In the second act, he is blind and does not remember meeting Vladimir and Estragon the night before.

  • Lucky

Pozzo's slave, who carries Pozzo's bags and stool. In Act I, he entertains by dancing and thinking. However, in Act II, he is dumb.

  • Boy

He appears at the end of each act to inform Vladimir that Godot will not be coming that night. In the second act, he insists that he was not there the previous night.

  • Godot

The man for whom Vladimir and Estragon wait unendingly. Godot never appears in the play. His name and character are often thought to refer to God.

  • 2.what do you say about their activities and its significance?

  • As per my view the main character  Estragon and Valadimir both are doing silly things as there is no hope of fulfilling their silly desires and at first reading of this play we cannot get the real essence of the play that what these characters are trying to depict!

  • 3.Is there any similarity between the situation in the play and lockdown period of 2020 ?

Yes , we find similar thing of lockdown and the present play. The very likely thing which in both situation if we observe we find that in the play everthing is based on false hope and in lockdown also people were having false hope that the pandemic will get off soon but that both things are wrong. In other sence we can say that Godot and peoples desire are same because  Godot will never meet valadimir and Estragon and in pandemic also people will never meet to their desires to go out and do things as before.

4.Did you feel like existential crisis?

I feel like there is existential crisis happening because people now a days are very busy to their work although it is a good thing but somewhere somhow we feel that there is lack of freedom in the society and by not depending on others i think that is the most important thing of todays world.

5.what did you do to pass time?

For the above thing i prefer to do sketch of nature and observing nature the purity which is in it and at a point i think we can connect to the nature because thats we are in a real sence and i think everyone must connect to the nature and it will give you the peace of mind and heart as well.

6.How was your psychological condition ?

At reading the play the first image which forms in our mind is that , what is the purpose of this play and at what psychological level the play is defined and in which form the play tackles with the mind of the readers .This shows the condition of the society in falseness and hopelessness.
